The hockey world is in mourning after legendary goaltender Bernie Parent and Hockey Hall of Fame entrant, who played with the Toronto Maple Leafs, has died at the age of 80.
Tributes and memorials are pouring in from the hockey community after the sad passing of a legendary NHL figure and a member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
"He delivered the club's two Stanley Cup Championships in 1974 and 1975, both of which culminated in a dominant and flawless performance in the clinching game of each series with a pair of shutout victories and earned him the Conn Smythe Trophy as the Most Valuable Player of the playoffs."
Hall-of-Famer and Former Toronto Maple Leafs Goaltender Bernie Parent has Passed Away
Parent broke into the NHL with the Boston Bruins, but became an original Flyer when he was taken by Philadelphia in the 1967 NHL Expansion Draft.
During the 1971 NHL Draft, he was sent to the Toronto Maple Leafs where he would play behind his boyhood hero Jacques Plante. His two years with Plante are credited with helping Parent become a much better goaltender, and his eventual return to the Flyers saw his go on an incredible run to win back-to-back Stanley Cups in 1974 and 1975.
