Legendary NHL broadcaster Chris Cuthbert warns fans, players and media not to sleep on top Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan during a recent podcast appearance.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are in a precarious position when it comes to their prospect pool and draft capital. That has hindered their ability to land some of the bigger names on the trade block this summer, but they have been very firm on their stance regarding prospects like Easton Cowan.
Cowan is a highly rated talent rising rapidly through the system, and after yet another tremendous season with the London Knights in the OHL, he should be vying for a spot on the opening night roster for the NHL club.
However, when considering all NHL prospects, the 20-year-old is often forgotten in the mix, and legendary NHL broadcaster Chris Cuthbert doesn't understand why, which is why he has a simple message for Leafs Nation and the rest of the league.
"I think everybody is sleeping on Easton Cowan. He had a tremendous camp two years ago when it was too early. Last year, we had all these expectations, but had a terrible camp, but he went back and went to work. He had an amazing season at junior."
He continued by saying that while expectations should be tempered, Cowan has all the markings of being a productive player during his rookie season and should be able to help the core players this year.
"Clearly he's not ready to be a core guy, but I think under the right circumstances, he might be a piece in this puzzle. Every time I look at a Leafs roster that doesn't have Easton Cowan, I wonder why he's getting left out, because I think he's a guy that could make a difference."

Where he fits right now remains to be seen, but there's going to be a lot of movement and changes coming to their lineup during the pre-season and the early stages of the season. With so many new faces, building chemistry is going to be paramount, which might lead to Cowan playing a key role to start.
Look for the Strathroy, Ontario native to blossom this year after coming off of one of the best post-seasons in OHL history. Cowan tallied 39 points in 17 games before finding another gear in the Memorial Cup Final to help the Knights claim two Championships in 2024-25.
