As the Maple Leafs prepare for the NHL Entry Draft this weekend, Brad Treliving met with the media on Thursday, where he was asked about negotiations with Marner. Without divulging too much, Treliving all but confirmed the two sides were far apart in negotiations.
A once popular face of the Maple Leafs, Marner quickly became the whipping boy to many in Leafs Nation after reports surfaced that he had turned down a lucrative extension in December and then declined multiple trades at and around the deadline.
With Treliving all but confirming the end of Marner's tenure as a member of the Maple Leafs, the 28-year-old leaves Toronto tallying 221 goals and 741 points in 657 regular season games to go along with 63 points in 70 playoff games.
