The Maple Leafs are without the services of Joseph Woll while he is on a leave of absence, and one Insider has addressed his potential timeline for a return.

With just two pre-season games remaining, the Toronto Maple Leafs are beginning to get closer to finalizing their roster for the 2025-26 season, and it's beginning to look more and more likely that rookie sensation Easton Cowan has made the team.
Aside from the Cowan storyline, which is exciting, we also have a healthy Auston Matthews, several intriguing new faces in Dakota Joshua, Matias Maccelli and Nicolas Roy, and with the return of Simon Benoit, a fully healthy blueline (knock on wood).
Things might look good up front and on the blueline, but when it comes to goaltending, that's where the biggest questions remain. Yes, the Leafs feel comfortable knowing they have Anthony Stolarz to tend the twine, but the uncertainty surrounding Joseph Woll is conerning.
The Leafs knew that whatever the issue was, it wasn't going to be something that would resolve quickly. That's why they signed former Leaf James Reimer to a PTO last week. With that in mind, I think we can expect Woll's absence to be a lengthy one.
During a recent segment on The Real Kyper & Bourne Show, Nick Kypreos touched on the Woll situation, suggesting that he doesn't see Woll being anywhere close to returning.
"We all want to respect whatever is going on... when a guy has a leave of absence and needs to go home for whatever reason, or goes somewhere, it's not to come back in 3 or 4 days. I don't see him coming back for a month. Think about it."

Kypreos also cautioned that when he does return, Woll could experience some issues relating to performance after missing training camp.
"When I say that, I'm talking about how long he'll be out of the lineup... If he's gone for two weeks, he'll need close to another two weeks to get ready. He's missed training camp. Go ask [Jeremy] Swayman in Boston what missing training camp does. Go ask these guys. It's a big deal for a goalie to miss training camp."

We still don't know what the leave of absence is about, other than the fact that it's in relation to an urgent family matter. With that in mind, we continue to wish Woll the best and look forward to his eventual return.
On the hockey side of things, though, Woll will be fighting a bit of an uphill battle when he returns. Of that, we can be sure.
