The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly acquired a 28-year-old, 6'5", 220-pound defenseman from their rivals, the Boston Bruins, in Brandon Carlo.

Mere hours after acquiring Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers, Leafs GM Brad Treliving has also landed Brandon Carlo from the Boston Bruins right at the 3:00 pm ET trade deadline.
The Leafs were desperately in need of an improvement on the right side of their defense corps, and the acquisition of Carlo absolutely provides an upgrade at that position.
Brad Treliving has always coveted large, physical defensemen with a long reach, and Carlo is certainly that. In addition, the former Bruin has amassed a great deal of playoff experience, which he'll put to use in Toronto.
In terms of what the Leafs are giving up, the return is not yet known, but the Leafs did pull Connor Dewar and Conor Timmins off the ice in Denver during the team's practice, so they are believed to be a part of the return for Boston.
The Leafs know full well what they're getting in Brandon Carlo, having played against him so frequently. He's been a thorn in their side for a number of years, and it's hard to deny that Carlo would be a wonderful fit next to Morgan Rielly.
More to come.
