Former Maple Leafs GM Kyle Dubas joined the Cam and Strick Podcast on Tuesday and revealed his biggest regret during his time with the Maple Leafs.

Like many other general managers, Kyle Dubas made good moves and bad moves during his time in Toronto in the hopes of leading his team to the ultimate goal of capturing the Stanley Cup.
Unfortunately for Dubas, some of his more polarizing decisions, like trading Nazem Kadri, not making changes to the Core 4, and choosing not protecting Jared McCann in the expansion draft, tarnished what could have been a great legacy.
Since being fired and joining the Pittsburgh Penguins, Dubas dealt with his fair share of scrutiny over his time in Toronto, with many debating what his worst move was as the GM of the Leafs.

From His Time With The Toronto Maple Leafs

Trading Kadri, letting Hyman walk, not trading Mitch Marner or terrible drafting have all been debated as his worst moves by Leafs Nation. On Tuesday, however, Dubas made a rare appearance on The Cam and Strick Podcast, where he finally revealed what he sees as his biggest regret -- and no, it's not any of the above.
"I have lots of regrets. The biggest one by far is actually Mason Marchment. He'd come in, we signed him to an American League contract. He didn't play because he had to build up his strength and his skating. He had some injury trouble and had been in and out and we found our way into a lack of scoring. There was a big push internally to acquire some skill, so there was a younger player that had a longer NHL pedigree in Florida in Denis Malgin. After lots of thinking about it, that was the decision I made. That's the one [I regret the most]."
It's certainly surprising to hear Dubas choose that trade as his biggest regret in Toronto, and it sounded like he didn't really want to make it, but was pressured from upper management, showing that the power struggle between he and Brendan Shanahan went back years.
Hindsight is 20/20, and looking back, the trade has become a sore spot for Leafs Nation. Malgin played a total of 31 games over two seasons with the Leafs, split by a two year stint in the Swiss League. That, coupled with the fact that Marchment turned into a very good middle-six forward for both the Florida Panthers, and now Dallas Stars, certainly haunts Dubas to this day.
