Leafs GM Brad Treliving Shares New Information on the Injured Auston Matthews

Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving touched on several subjects during his meeting with members of the media on Tuesday mornint, including the latest news on Leafs captain Auston Matthews.

Matthews has not played since November 11th after leaving a game against the Boston Bruins with just over 10 minutes of ice time.

Asked when Matthews might return to action, Treliving told reporters in Toronto that it won't be tonight, and probably won't be Thursday against the Columbus Blue Jackets. However, Saturday night against the Montreal Canadiens is a real possibility. For now, Matthews remains "day-to-day."

It's not exactly clear what's ailing Matthews. He missed several games last season with what was called an "upper-body injury." Matthews has 9 goals and 14 points in 17 games so far as he continues to recover from his new lower-body ailment.

Treliving's main message with reporters today was that the cure to the Maple Leafs' current woes are in the room, and getting everyone on the same page is the most important task ahead.

Obviously, having your star player and captain on the sidelines is never a good thing, and Matthews' presence and energy are sorely needed as the team attempts to get back on track.

It sounds like Matthews' current injury is fairly minor, which is great news. However, given his past, there's always going to be concern about minor issues becoming bigger issues. For now, though, he seems to be on track to at least be considered an option for Saturday's game against the Habs.
