Frustrations Boil Over After Another Kyle Dubas Blunder as Leafs GM Has Been Uncovered

However, a new report is pointing out a major error by Dubas from back when he was GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs may take the cake as the worst decision during his time in Toronto.

In July of 2022, the Chicago Blackhawks let Dylan Strome walk away from the team by not extending him a qualifying offer.

While many believed the Maple Leafs would take a run at the Ontario native and former third overall pick, Strome landed with the Washington Capitals on a one-year deal that turned into a 5-year, $25 million extension.

Originally, it didn't seem like a huge deal and that perhaps Strome simply chose Washington over Toronto. As turns out, then Leafs GM Kyle Dubas never even made an offer to Strome.

Hindsight is always 20/20, but the addition of Dylan Strome to the lineup could have been huge for the Maple Leafs. The 28-year-old has put up three straight 20+ goal seasons with the Caps, and has become a major part of the team's identity.

It's not the first time Dubas has been called out for mistakes made while he was the Maple Leafs GM, but this one seems particularly unforgiveable as it appears he didn't even try for the local star.

Before his extension with the Washington Capitals, Strome was on a one-year deal worth $3.5 million, easily doable for the Maple Leafs at that time.
