A historical link between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Toronto Blue Jays is giving fans reason to feel optimistic about the chances of winning a championship.

The growing bond between the Maple Leafs and Blue Jays has been a fairly significant story in Toronto as the Jays continue their pursuit of a 3rd World Series victory.
The mutual respect and support shown between Auston Matthews and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been fun to watch, with the players donning one another's jersey on their respective game days.
While the Blue Jays continue to enjoy a lot of post-season success, the Maple Leafs have gotten off to a bit of a concerning start this season, playing to a 3-3-1 record through 7 games to open their season. That record, however, has a special significance in Toronto sports.
On October 21st, 1992, the Maple Leafs owned a 3-3-1 record, and the Blue Jays went on to capture their first ever World Series that year. They won it again the following season.
With the Leafs owning that same record as of October 21st, 2025, you can't help but feel a level of serendipity as the Blue Jays have an opportunity to repeat history.
Obviously, this could be nothing more than just coincidence, but perhaps it's written in the stars that the Blue Jays are destined to once again allow the City of Toronto to celebrate, the way they did when the Toronto Raptors brought an NBA championship to the city in 2019.
I suspect that we're going to continue to see the Leafs players show their unwavering support for their counterparts on game days, wearing their Blue Jays gear during their arena walk-ins, as they have throughout the early stages of the season so far.
The Leafs are in Buffalo today to take on the Sabres tonight, with the Sabres travelling to Toronto after tonight's game for the second half of a back-to-back at Scotiabank Arena tomorrow night.
Game 1 of the World Series between the Blue Jays and the LA Dodgers also begins tonight.
