Leafs' Auston Matthews Returns the Favour, Pays Homage to Blue Jays' Vladdy Guerrero Jr.

With the Toronto Blue Jays heading into their pivotal Game 7 of the American League Championship Series yesterday, superstar slugger Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was spotted walking into the Rogers Centre sporting an Auston Matthews jersey.

The Toronto Maple Leafs jersey was seen by many on social media as a potential curse, considering the team's lack of playoff success, primarily in do-or-die games.

Nevertheless, Guerrero Jr. and the Blue Jays were able to pull off the victory in large part because of George Springer's 3-run home run in the bottom of the 7th inning. The Jays looked a little lifeless before the home run, but prevailed with a gutsy effort to advance to the World Series, which starts on Friday against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

With the massive victory in the minds of everyone in Toronto, Matthews pulled up to Scotiabank Arena on Tuesday donning a Vladdy Guerrero Jr. jersey ahead of their contest against the New Jersey Devils.

Matthews, who was honoured by the fact that Guerrero Jr. chose his jersey, paid him back with the respectful gesture. While it's not a playoff contest for the Leafs tonight, they could surely use a decisive victory to quiet down some of the outside noise that has already populated their season.

Matthews wasn't the only player who showed up to the arena in their Blue Jays apparel, as Max Domi and William Nylander were among those who also outwardly showed their support for their MLB counterparts. Benoit had a unique Blue Jays setup as well.

Matthews has gotten off to a hot start this season with 4 goals in 6 games, including 3 in his last 3 contests. Hopefully the Guerrero Jr. jersey works like a charm and that the Leafs captain can channel some of that Blue Jays hype and lead the way for his club against a tough Eastern Conference opponent.
