Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube was very quick to celebrate the play of one unlikely star against Florida, and it may be a bit of an awakening for Max Domi.
Leafs head coach Craig Berube was very quick to celebrate Domi's big night during his post-game comments, identifying the 2nd generation Maple Leaf as someone who really stood out.
"He had a heck of a game, in my opinion - big hit, fight, scored a goal. He was skating and working. He was good."
During the third period, Berube actually thought so highly of Domi's game that he had actually shifted him back to the middle of the ice where he could cover more of the ice and have a larger impact on the game.
"I mixed it up a little bit. I put Max in the middle. He was skating well, so I wanted to put him back in the middle. I put Laughts on the wing with Tavares and Nylander."
The newly-acquired Laughton received a bit of a bump up the roster with Tavares and Nylander in an attempt to get him going, but to no avail. Laughton is slowly becoming adjusted to the new system, though, so it's only a matter of time before he settles in and deploys his full range of skills.
The timing of Domi's breakout performance was very important for the Leafs with the playoffs looming. If Domi can continue to put forth that type of an effort as we approach, and especially enter the playoffs, that bodes really well for the Maple Leafs.
