One Maple Leafs beat reporter has shared a concerning update on goaltender Joseph Woll amid his leave of absence, and a quick return doesn't sound too promising.

Prior to having the opportunity to get his feet wet at Maple Leafs training camp, goaltender Joseph Woll took a leave of absence from the team to tend to a personal family matter.

Maple Leafs Beat Reporter Luke Fox Drops Concerning Joseph Woll Update

The team, thus far, has been very quiet about the nature of the absence, the seriousness and the timeline for his return, but judging by a report from Sportsnet's Luke Fox, Woll will not be back anytime soon.
Fox was a guest on Leafs Morning Take with Jay Rosehill and Nick Alberga this week, and when the discussion had shifted to Woll's situation, Fox admitted that the team shuts down any and all questions regarding Woll very quickly.
"Yeah, whenever you talk to anyone around the Leafs about it, they shut you down pretty quick, and as a journalist trying to cover the team, it's kind of a delicate balance, because you definitely want to respect the player."

Fox also asked important questions about the situation that not a lot of people have been asking publicly: What if Anthony Stolarz gets hurt early on this season, and what if new waiver claim Cayden Primeau struggles?
"The flip side of that coin is, what if Anthony Stolarz gets injured? There's 3 back-to-backs this month. What if Cayden Primeau looks very average to poor, and he's posting save percentages that begin with an 8? It's a major storyline that could affect the team, and we've been given zero timeline for his return."

Joseph Woll's Locker Room Stall Still Set Up With All of His Equipment

Fox did provide us with a hint of something positive as he did inform listeners that Woll's stall in the Leafs' locker room is still set up with all of his gear, highlighting the fact that if he wasn't expected back this year, the team would have emptied that out.
The positivity stops there, though, as Fox also highlighted the fact that if Woll's equipment is all in Toronto, he's definitely not skating, and hasn't had the pads on since late this summer.
Obviously, everyone's number one concern is Woll, his health and that he's where he needs to be right now to tend to what he needs to tend to.
The toughest part of this entire situation is the lack of information. Obviously, players are people and they're entitled to their privacy, but in terms of not knowing when he'll return to Toronto, that's what I think everyone is struggling with.
The curiosity surrounding the situation is at an all-time high, and hopefully we have some sort of a timeline update in the near future at the very least.
