Several Maple Leafs players delivered a heartwarming gesture, highlighting the Leafs organization's commitment to also serving the community in Toronto.
With Canadian Thanksgiving around the corner, several key members of the Toronto Maple Leafs were seen helping out at the Covenant House, including
Simon Benoit,
Max Domi, and
William Nylander.
Covenant House Toronto has been helping out and providing shelter, meals, and health services to the youth and the homeless since 1982.
This isn't the first time that members of the Maple Leafs have helped out at the Covenant House, as they've been working in tandem for close to a decade, including recent visits from the likes of
John Tavares,
Anthony Stolarz and
Nicholas Robertson.
For Domi, it's even more special because his father Tie had done the same thing throughout his tenure with the Leafs when Max was growing up and by his side.
To be honest, I used to come to these events with my pops back when he played. So now it's come full circle, and it's pretty special. I only live 10 minutes away, and it's great to make a difference any way you can. Just to see someone smile when they see you makes my day, and I'm really enjoying it.
For those who are being helped by the Covenant House, being able to meet some of their favourite players to lighten up their days is exactly why the Leafs partnered up and why CEO Mark Aston is proud of their work.
These youths look forward to seeing the Leafs here so much. It's amazing that these players take time to do this. It's so impactful on these kids and brings so much energy. So many of them have been through a lot and they need something, anything, to provide optimism. This helps accomplish that.
Benoit and the Leafs will be continuing this trend for as long as possible as giving back to the community is a pinnacle of the organization.
There should never be a time where you don't want to give back to the community. It doesn't matter if we played yesterday or going to play tomorrow, the next day, whatever. Today we're fortunate to come here and help people in need.
Perhaps their trip to the Covenant House will give them even more motivation this weekend when they face-off against the Detroit Red Wings on both Saturday and Monday night.
