The Maple Leafs made a pair of waiver claims on Monday afternoon, claiming a goaltender from the Carolina Hurricanes and a former St. Louis Blues Forward from the Montreal Canadiens.
While Reimer played in the Leafs' pre-season finale against the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday, his future remains largely uncertain. However, the Leafs' waiver claim on Monday all but solidifies that Reimer will not be signing with the Leafs to begin the season.
After a number of players were placed on waivers on Sunday afternoon,
including four Leafs, many suspected the team would take aim at one of the waived goaltenders to add some depth while they wait for Woll's return.
With that, they claimed both Cayden Primeau from the Hurricanes, as well as forward Sammy Blais, from the Canadiens on Monday afternoon.
The 26-year-old Primeau played in 11 games for the Habs last season while Blais played under Leafs head coach Craig Berube in St. Louis for a couple of seasons.
With the injury to
Scott Laughton, Blais adds another physical element to the Leafs' bottom-six and would allow them to move on from the likes of
Calle Jarnkrok if they so choose to.
