With the series hanging in the balance, the Toronto Maple Leafs have put together their worst performance and the fans are letting them hear it.
After a 2-0 series lead to start the second round against the Florida Panthers, the Toronto Maple Leafs blew it in enemy territory and brought about a lot of pressure in what was going to be their biggest game in well over a decade in Game 5.
Things didn't start off too well with the Panthers grabbing a 1-0 lead and a 14-6 edge in shots after the first period but all hell broke loose in the second with Florida adding 3 more goals as the Leafs floundered into the intermission.
The Panthers got some fortuitous bounces but they controlled play and dominated the Leafs on home ice and the fans weren't shy in letting their team hear the boo-birds for what could be their worst performance all season.
Hard to blame the fans in attendance considering the Maple Leafs haven't scored a goal in over 124 minutes, dating back to the third period in Game 3 when
Morgan Rielly tied the game up midway through.
Game 4 was a very disappointing performance after they were out-shot 37-23 and weren't able to create much of anything. The hope was that that would wake them up as they returned to the Scotiabank Arena but the Panthers had other plans.
Barring a complete miracle in the third period, the Leafs are going to fall for the third straight game and will be facing elimination in enemy territory on Friday night when the series shifts back to Florida.
Considering their lack of production and success in elimination games since 2018, the Leafs are going to be facing an uphill battle.
