Maple Leafs Captain Auston Matthews Gets Extremely Emotional During Live Video Interview

Fans are catching a glimpse of a side of Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews that they have never seen before during a video interview.
Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews is one of the heart and soul players on the roster in Toronto, and he's admittedly struggling to produce in the Stanley Cup Playoffs as he and his teammates take on the red hot Florida Panthers.
Ahead of tonight's critical Game 5 in Toronto with their 2nd round series tied 2-2, a recent interview involving both Auston Matthews and his mother, Ema Matthews, has gone viral for exposing an emotional side of the normally resolute forward.
Auston's mother recently recounted the tough realities of the expensive nature of ice hockey and how she worked a pair of jobs to help support her son's dream.
"We were struggling. We knew hockey was very expensive. I worked for Starbucks, and back then I met a customer and she offered me a job as a hostess in a restaurant. I took it, so I used to work in the morning for Starbucks and in the afternoon at the restaurant. I was very fortunate to have two jobs, and believe me, if they would have had more hours, I'd have more (jobs)."
Matthews himself got quite emotional and teared up when talking about the sacrifices that both of his parents made for him growing up:
"I get pretty emotional about it too, because it meant a lot to me growing up. I don't like getting emotional, but when I think about my parents, obviously like any parent, they sacrificed quite a bit. It's tough reflecting, just because we went through a lot of hard times. They got to ride along with me too, so it's pretty special."
The sacrifices paid off, as Matthews was eventually selected with the 1st overall pick in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft by the Maple Leafs and has become one of the NHL's premier players and an elite goal scorer.
While Matthews doesn't show a lot of emotions, the hope is that a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals and perhaps having his name etched on Lord Stanley's iconic trophy can and will evoke more emotion from the Arizona product.
