The TSN OverDrive crew gave Maple Leafs fans a chance to weigh in on one important question regarding top prospect Easton Cowan, and the responses are in.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have undergone a significant amount of change this summer, largely related to the departure of Mitch Marner and a handful of other minor pieces who departed through either trade or free agency.
Not only was Marner shipped off to Vegas in exchange for center Nicolas Roy, but the Leafs also dealt veteran enforcer Ryan Reaves to the San Jose Sharks for defenseman Henry Thrun.
With depth forward Pontus Holmberg also on the move and the Leafs gauging the trade market temperature on Calle Jarnkrok and David Kampf, it has left the team with a few potential holes in the lineup -- one that could potentially be filled by a top prospect like Easton Cowan.
After winning a second consecutive OHL championship, followed by a Memorial Cup victory, Cowan was named MVP of the Memorial Cup Playoffs, which has led to many wondering if he's finally ready to join the NHL ranks.
This week, the TSN OverDrive team submitted a poll to fans to see where they stand on whether or not Cowan is ready for the NHL. The fans have had their say, and while the poll was relatively close, more than half of all fans who voted believe that Cowan will be on the Leafs' opening night roster.
Cowan was cut from camp late last summer and sent back for his final year of OHL hockey. This year, if he fails to make the team, he's eligible to play in the American Hockey League with the Toronto Marlies.
