Maple Leafs top prospect Easton Cowan caps off tremendous junior career with prestigious honour as the London Knights are crowned Memorial Cup champions.
After a tremendous season from the London Knights, the OHL juggernauts claimed the Memorial Cup after defeating Gavin McKenna and the Medicine Hat Tigers soundly by a score of 4-1.
The Knights were led by Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Easton Cowan who was named tournament MVP after leading the circuit with 7 points in 5 games, tied with fellow teammate and captain
Denver Barkey.
For his efforts,
Cowan set a CHL record by becoming the first player since 1972 to lead the Memorial Cup in points in successive seasons.
The Knights forward ends his junior career with 84 goals and 220 points in 175 regular season games on top of an additional 32 goals and 96 points in just 60 post-season contests, That scintillating stretch includes a ridiculous 39-point spring this past season in only 17 games to claim back-to-back OHL championships.
Cowan also followed in the footsteps of another Knights legend and Maple Leafs teammate in
Mitch Marner, who was named tournament MVP the last time they won the Memorial Cup back in 2016.
The Knights came agonizingly close last year when they ran through the OHL playoff circuit in 18 games just to fall in the Memorial Cup Finals to the Saginaw Spirit. They came back with a fury this season and it was a fitting swan song for Cowan and some of the other senior members like Barkey and
Oliver Bonk.
Look for Cowan to make an impression for the Maple Leafs at training camp as he vies for a roster spot with the club. If all goes according to play, Cowan should be making his NHL debut sometime in October when the Leafs take the ice to kick off the 2025-26 season.
