Elliotte Friedman Shares Huge Update on Leafs' Mitch Marner and Potential Trade to Vegas
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman has just provided a thrilling update involving Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner and his rumoured sign-and-trade to Vegas.
When it became clear last week that Mitch Marner would indeed be on the move, Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving made it clear that his preference was to get something in return for his star winger rather than losing him for nothing.
Marner was recently rumoured to be in Las Vegas looking at potential homes for his family earlier this month, which has led to reports that Vegas may be guilty of tampering, which could result in some intimidating potential penalties.
On the weekend, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the Leafs and Golden Knights have been discussing a sign-and-trade that would send Marner to Vegas for a return that is likely centered around pivot Nicolas Roy.
While the deal has yet to go through, Friedman spoke in an interview during an appearance on The FAN Hockey Show, communicating that this deal is very likely to go through on Monday, ahead of Tuesday's free agent frenzy.
The fact that this deal was not completed over the last couple of days is a pretty good indicator that it's not simply going to be a 1-for-1 deal involving Nic Roy and Mitch Marner, but rather a larger deal that could involve multiple assets coming back to Toronto.
We'll continue to monitor the situation and provide an update as soon as one becomes available. More to come.
