The Maple Leafs have extended an invite to Owen Conrad of the QMJHL after he surprisingly went undrafted this past weekend during the NHL Entry Draft.

As is the case with every passing NHL draft, there were several intriguing prospects that went undrafted through 7 rounds.
This year's draft seemingly held a consistent theme for most teams involved as they selected players with a ton of size, including the Toronto Maple Leafs, who went for size on nearly every selection they made, not selecting a single player under 6-foot-1.
That theme seemingly continued into Sunday as the Maple Leafs reportedly extended an invite to defenseman Owen Conrad out of the Charlottetown Islanders of the QMJHL.
Coming in at 6'3 and 215 pounds, the towering defenseman had 2nd to 3rd round potential, but found himself on the outside looking in once the draft concluded on Saturday.
Perhaps it was his lack of offensive flash that left him off the board, but Conrad profiles as a very sturdy and reliable defensive defenseman who doesn't shy away from the rough stuff.
While he won't put up staggering amount of points, Conrad is also fairly good with the puck on his stick, giving him solid two-way abilities, which is always an aspect the Maple Leafs seem to covet.
The Nova Scotia native was ranked 63rd by Sportsnet's Jason Bukala, 69th by Daily Faceoff, and 72nd by McKeen's Hockey. His lowest rank came through Recruit Scouting at 126th, which would still have him in the 4th to 5th round range at the very least.
Elite Prospects also furthers the point that he was a steal for the Maple Leafs with their mention of timely pokechecks, his ability to execute pinches, and his willingness to put the body on the line with blocked shots.
Look for Conrad to enter development camp with a chip on his shoulder after going undrafted through 224 selections. If all goes to plan, the Maple Leafs could give the rugged defenseman a contract, which would ultimately beef up their pipeline for the foreseeable future.
