Two popular podcasters aren't sold that J.T. Miller stays put in Vancouver even after signing his new deal

After a career year that saw J.T. Miller post 32 goals and 67 assists for 99 points in 80 games, the former New York Ranger was awarded a massive 7-year $56 million dollar contract with the Vancouver Canucks, which is set to kick in for the 2023-24 season. Miller seems to have made Vancouver his home, although a couple of former NHLers seems to think otherwise despite signing this huge contract.

Paul Bissonnette and Ryan Whitney of the podcast "Spittin' Chiclets" both seem to believe Miller will be traded and won't finish out his contract with the Canucks. Former Phoenix Coyote "Biz Nasty" said "I think he's well worth it, he's a f-cking excellent player with high end skill. The age factor doesn't really scare me.. I will be surprised to see him play out this deal in Vancouver. I would be shocked if he's there in even two years."

Ryan Whitney added "Looking at his numbers even since he got to Vancouver, he took off.. I didn't see him fitting in with that team and so maybe he will be dealt at some point. He's the best player on their team but it's like I just don't know the direction that entire clubs going."

The Canucks are in a tough spot right now. They still need to sign captain Bo Horvat to an extension and are also facing extensions for Nils Hoglander, Andrei Kuzmenko, Travis Dermott and Luke Schenn, among some other peripheral pieces. If they aren't in a position to contend this season or next, a re-tool could be in their sights and trading Miller could be a plan for the team since he'd fetch a sizeable return.

It's really anyone's guess how the Canucks proceed, but with the two sides going back and forth as long as they did in their negotiations and with Miller having been involved in trade rumours for the better part of two years, there might be some room for both sides to agree to part ways amicably.
