The last time a Leaf threw out the first pitch at a Toronto Blue Jays game was in 2017 when Mitch Marner took the mound. That game didn't go all that well for the Jays unfortunately as they got thumped by Tampa 8-1. Tonight, the Jays are hoping Auston Matthews' first pitch brings them some good luck.

Before throwing out the first pitch, Matthews noted he was nervous as he took over Jays' Twitter, but after chatting with another Toronto MVP in Yankee Josh Donaldson, playing catch with Mitch Marner and Michael Bunting and signing a few autographs, he was calm, cool and collected.

Auston took some heat from his Leaf teammates today at practice as they were hoping he would ground one, or miss the plate entirely. Thankfully, Matthews put his childhood baseball days to use and found Alex Manoah's glove behind the plate even if it was head high and just a bit outside.
