Leafs head coach connected to another Eastern Conference team

The Leafs are very much a team in transition right now following the dismissal of GM Kyle Dubas on Friday. There's no telling just how deep the changes will go now. It's likely that at least one of the members of the Core 4 will be jettisoned, and I think we can also hammer the final nail into Sheldon Keefe's coffin in Toronto.

With Keefe not a likely candidate to return next season, the speculation has already begun as to where he might end up. Rumour has it, he could be bound for New York City.

Per the Athletic's Arthur Staple, Sheldon Keefe is just one potential candidate to take over in New York, following the Rangers' dismissal of former head coach Gerard Gallant. He's also the second coach from Toronto to be linked to the Rangers, as assistant coach Spencer Carbery was also interviewed by the Rangers this week.

Keefe's failure to adapt in the playoffs combined with his failure to get the most out of his players in the postseason are two of the main reasons why he is not likely to return behind the bench for the Leafs. There's also the matter of a new GM coming in and, as we know, a new GM coming in almost always wants his own coach.
