Fresh off of a weekend at the Traverse City Prospects Tournament, Matthew Knies joined his teammates at the Leafs' annual charity golf tournament yesterday. Knies, along with William Nylander, Ryan Reaves, Max Domi and many others took part, as they normally do, as the tournament takes place just days before training camp opens.
After media sessions and during their round of golf, Knies and Nylander took a few minutes to re-enact a hilarious Family Guy skit about golf. Nylander has never been one to shy away from these skits and in Knies, he may have finally found a partner in crime to put together funny clips like this, showing some personality.
Knies will enter training camp vying for a role in the Leafs' revamped top-six. While many want to see him start the season with Auston Matthews, that spot is likely going to go to Tyler Bertuzzi, which means Knies will likely slot in on the second line - as long as Sheldon Keefe feels he has done enough to beat out another new Leaf in Max Domi. Failing that, Knies would likely be penciled in at 3LW to begin the season.
Knies was impressive in his brief stint with the Leafs last season and will be coming into camp as a legitimate Calder Trophy candidate, though the frontrunners at this stage appear to be Connor Bedard (CHI) and Adam Fantilli (CBJ).
