If all goes well this week, we could see the Toronto Maple Leafs name a new general manager, and not a moment too soon with the laundry list of items that are in need of semi-immediate attention. One thing that's for certain is that whoever the Leafs do hire, they're going to have a very busy summer ahead and will undoubtedly already be starting behind the 8-ball.

We have heard a number of names connected to the Leafs over the last week, but the front-runner from the very beginning has appeared to be Brad Treliving, formerly GM of the Calgary Flames. Some other names that we've heard have been Marc Bergevin, Peter Chiarelli, Doug Wilson and Jason Botterill. TSN's Darren Dreger appeared on TSN1050's First Up on Monday morning to discuss what he's hearing in terms of the Leafs' GM search and while he didn't have a lot of answers as to who might be leading the way now, he did reveal that one candidate that was previously mentioned seems to be out of the mix in Toronto.

"[Jason] Botterill's name has been out there - it's interesting. He's an executive with Ron Francis and the Seattle Kraken. I don't get the feeling that he's in the mix at all with Toronto. So that's kind of where we're at right now as we begin a new week. It's trying to separate fact from fiction and who is actually in the process." - Dreger on Botterill's chances of landing GM job in Toronto

There could still be a few conversations that the Leafs are waiting to have with executives who are currently still competing in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, but all signs point towards a resolution coming here sooner than later. In the meantime, AGM Brandon Pridham continues to run the day-to-day operations in Toronto, ensuring that things are looked after in the interim.
