Atlantic Division rival announces another significant signing
Just hours after announcing that they had re-signed their captain to a 1-year deal worth as much as $5M after performance bonuses, the Boston Bruins have announced another significant deal, similar to the one signed by Patrice Bergeron.
Per the Bruins' official Twitter account, 36-year-old David Krejci has agreed to terms to return to Boston on a 1-year deal worth as much as $3M. The base salary of the deal is just $1M, but does contain up to $2M in performance bonuses.
Krejci played last season in his native Czechia for HC Olomouc, suiting up in 51 contests and racking up 46 points. He also competed with his fellow Czechs in the Beijing Olympics and the World Championship tournament. He did not medal at the Olympics, but the Czechs did medal at the World Championship, taking home bronze. Krejci finished 2nd in team scoring with 12 points.
Krecji was originally drafted by the Bruins back in 2004 (63rd overall). He has suited up in 962 career NHL games, all with with the Bruins, racking up 730 points during his 15-year NHL career. The Sternberk, Czech Rep. native has also amassed 156 career games of playoff experience during his time with the Bruins, tallying 42 goals and 82 assists for 124 points.
With Krejci and Bergeron back in the fold, the Bruins could end up being several million dollars over the cap, which means that a move is likely coming. Thankfully for GM Don Sweeney, he has some time with which to work, as the Bruins will have multiple players beginning the season on LTIR.
