Chicago Blackhawks forward Corey Perry was a healthy scratch for Wednesday's 7-3 loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. No one thought much of it at the time, but when Perry was not at practice the following day, questions began to arise. Following practice, the Hawks players and staff were asked about Perry's absence. The players that spoke on the matter revealed they had no idea what was going on and had no real information. Luke Richardson, the Blackhawks head coach said that it was an organizational decision and reiterated that statement yesterday ahead of their 4-3 overtime game against the Maple Leafs.

This afternoon, Kyle Davidson, General Manager of the Hawks announced that Perry would remain away from the team for the "forseeable future". Following the Hawks' announcement, Perry's agent, Pat Morris released the following statement.

"Corey Perry has stepped away from the Chicago Blackhawks to attend to personal matters. Corey and his family appreciate privacy at this time."

It would appear that the Hawks coaching staff and management are the only ones that are aware of the reasons behind Perry's absence, but are not going to release any further information. Given that it was an "organizational decision" to not have Perry play in their last two games or attend practice, it would seem that Perry has played his last game for the Hawks.

Perry signed a 1-year, $4M deal with the Hawks and was brought in to add some veteran leadership around Connor Bedard as he navigated his first NHL season. In 16 games, Perry had 4 goals and 9 points. In 1273 games, the 38-year-old has registered 421 goals and 892 points.
