The unfortunate injury to Maple Leafs defenceman Jake McCabe has been identified by a popular sports doctor, who shared a breakdown of an expected recovery timeline on Friday.

Some troubling news came out of the Toronto Maple Leafs' practice on Friday as it was annnounced that both defenceman Jake McCabe and forward David Kampf will be out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets.
It's believed that McCabe was hurt after going into the boards hard following a hit from Carter Verhaeghe of the Florida Panthers in the Maple Leafs' last game.
In making the announcement that neither would play tomorrow night, Leafs head coach Craig Berube made it clear he was keeping the finer details to himself.
"Right now I'd say day-to-day. I can't really comment on that too much about how long it's going to be."
Sports Doctor Harjas Grewal has offered his professional insight into the situation, saying the injury to McCabe appears to be a separated shoulder.
If that is indeed the case, Dr. Grewal explained it is very much a day-to-day situation, adding that McCabe may still be able to play if absolutely needed by getting some injections.
The Maple Leafs have already clinched a spot in the post-season after their win over Florida, but there are just seven games left in the regular season, meaning McCabe's injury will force Berube to make the difficult decision of whether to play McCabe while he's hurt, or let him rest in the hopes that he'll be close to 100 percent for the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
McCabe has been a big part of the Leafs' success this season, averaging over 21 minutes of ice time per night in his 66 games so far. If Toronto is going to go on a run in the post season, McCabe's presence in the lineup is certainly needed.
