Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Kyle Dubas will earn his pay this summer as he's got quite the puzzle to put together. The Leafs GM has to sign Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner to massive contracts along with trying to keep Par Lindholm, Kasperi Kapanen, Andreas Johnsson, Jake Gardiner and Igor Ozhiganov around. All that with maybe $24million in cap space depending how much the cap goes up, pretty tough puzzle to complete with Marner and Matthews likely to eat up around $20million of that cap space. Many believe opposing GM's will be foaming at the mouth trying to screw over the Leafs and try and get Matthews to sign an offer sheet, it would be the first since Ryan O'Reilly in 2013. It's a tough spot for Dubas, match the deal and have your hands tied, or let Matthews go and lose a franchise player. Jake Gackle of The Mercury News believes that if the Sharks don't re-sign Erik Karlsson, general manager Doug Wilson might give Dubas another headache by trying to sign Marner to an offer sheet. Gackle points out that Marner would bring "a valuable injection of youth, speed, and playmaking skills to the Sharks". It's a complicated move for the Sharks though as Wilson would have to make deals with both the Sabres and Senators to get their first round picks back if the Leafs weren't able to match the offer sheet. Gackle also believes that the Sharks could make a deal similar to how they landed both Evander Kane and Karlsson.
