Ryan Reaves Scorns Leafs' Fan Base Over Reaction to Him Selling Mitch Marner on Life in Vegas

Former Maple Leafs enforcer Ryan Reaves broke his silence on the rumours that he sold Mitch Marner on joining Vegas with a passionate defense of his actions.
Two weeks ago, Ryan Reaves was traded to the San Jose Sharks for 24-year-old defenseman Henry Thrun.
The timing of Reaves' exit fueled speculation that he was traded due to his comments the day before on the 'Cam and Strick' podcast regarding Mitch Marner and selling him on life in Las Vegas, Nevada.
That was quickly debunked, however, when Reaves spoke to the media days later confirming that it was a long time coming and that he had asked for a trade.
Ryan Reaves Clarifies Comments on Mitch Marner and Vegas
On Monday, 'Reavo' was on the Leafs Morning Take podcast, where he was asked about his comments on Marner. Reaves delivered a passionate, yet understandable response on telling Marner about Vegas.
"[Marner] was hitting free agency. That was public knowledge. I'm very close with Mitchy. I became very close with him over the last two years and he asked me about my opinion on Vegas. I played here for four years, I live here all year because I love the city. What do you want me to do? Lie to him because I'm still technically signed with Toronto? That's my boy. I'm not going to steer him wrong. I loved my time here. I enjoyed every second of it. It's a great place to live. It's a little toned down compared to Toronto in relation to the fans and how much pressure there is. I'm not going to lie to him about that. I wasn't trying to draw him away from Toronto. I was just being honest. I don't really care what people say about that. I wasn't doing anything shady or trying to hurt the Leafs, I was just being a friend to Mitch."
The 38-year-old played in just 35 games for the Leafs last season fighting just once, but is hopeful to play at least 88 more games to reach 1000 for his career.
Reaves was brought to Toronto to help change the dynamic in the dressing room and ensure that teams wouldn't take liberties with the Leafs' stars. Now, he will do the same in San Jose as they continue to rebuild with a very talented young crop of players.
