With all the changes that the Leafs have gone through, one reputable sportsbook doesn't believe it's enough to place them in the upper echelon of the NHL.

It's no secret that the Toronto Maple Leafs are going to enter the 2025-26 season looking a brand new team after the departure of Mitch Marner. In his stead they acquired Dakota Joshua, Matias Maccelli, Michael Pezzetta, and Nic Roy.
Despite all the changes that they've made, many are skeptical that it will lead to long-term success, including one of the more reputable sportsbooks in the county in Bodog.
In a recent post on Instagram, Bodog Canada split the NHL up into two categories; better or worse than the Maple Leafs. In an interesting twist, they tabbed the Leafs as the 11th best team in the NHL behind some of the usual suspects like Florida and Edmonton. However, there were a couple teams in there that the Leafs should certainly be ahead of.
Aside from Florida and Edmonton, the Vegas Golden Knights, Dallas Stars, Colorado Avalanche, Carolina Hurricanes, and Winnipeg Jets have their arguments, but rounding out the top-10 are Tampa Bay, Washington, and Los Angeles. The Kings are a little surprising, considering their first round exit at the hands of the Oilers, as well as some questionable free agent pick-ups.
Washington and Tampa Bay are two veteran teams that can never be counted out, but they certainly have their flaws, like the Maple Leafs, which makes it a debatable topic. Toronto was only 3 points back of Washington and 6 points up on Tampa Bay in the standings, all the while finishing 4th league-wide.
While losing Marner is a tough pill to swallow and replacing his offense might not be a realistic task, the Leafs look like a more complete team that is going for balance and depth. They still have some elite scoring options at the top of the lineup, but now they have secondary options that bring size and compete to the forefront.
It's going to be an interesting 2025-26 campaign with how many changes took place league-wide. The Panthers are still the team to beat, but don't count out the Maple Leafs just yet. Their roster construction might be a bit of a surprise, but it's perfectly geared towards Craig Berube's north-south system.
