The Toronto Maple Leafs are in Colorado to take on the Avalanche on Saturday and, thankfully, fans in the Eastern Time Zone will not have to stay up until after midnight to watch, as the two teams face off at 7:00pm ET this evening.
The Leafs are on a roll coming into this one, winners of their last 6 straight, including a 9-2 win over Anaheim and a 7-3 win over Vegas. The team is really rolling right now and Mitch Marner has a lot to do with that. In fact, he's on the cusp of breaking a record set by Wayne Gretzky back in 1984-85.
Mitch Marner has put together quite the streak for himself over this most recent stretch, collecting multiple assists in 6 straight games, racking up 15 assists over that span. Two more multi-assist games will tie him with "The Great One", who posted 2+ assists in 8 straight games during the 1984-85 season.
For Marner and the Leafs, all of these individual achievements and franchise records don't mean much now. As Max Domi pointed out following the team's win in Vegas, they're all focused on one thing and one thing only. Bringing a Stanley Cup back to Toronto.
