New Information on Injury to Leafs Captain Auston Matthews a Cause For Concern

TSN's Chris Johnston has shared some concerning news regarding the lower-body injury to Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews ahead of Thursday's game against the Kings.
The Maple Leafs have been hit hard by injury this season -- even before Tuesday's loss to the Bruins. Already without Chris Tanev and Scott Laughton during the loss, goaltender Anthony Stolarz and captain Auston Matthews were added to their growing injury list.
Matthews Injured by Nikita Zadorov
Midway through the game on Tuesday, Bruins defenseman Nikita Zadorov hit Matthews on the numbers, sending him head-first into the boards. Matthews finished his shift, but headed for the dressing room shortly thereafter.
Ahead of the third period, the Leafs announced that Matthews wouldn't return for the final frame with a lower-body injury.
Matthews Out For Thursday's Game Against LA
While most were hopeful that Matthews was simply held out for precautionary reasons, TSN's Chris Johnston has revealed on Thursday morning that Matthews will not only miss the Leafs' game against the Kings, but will be out at least a week with his injury.
Before the injury, Matthews had looked much better than he did last season when he dealt with a nagging injury from the on-set of 2024-25 training camp.
While the Leafs have struggled mightily in their last three games defensively, they actually faired well without their captain last season, going 10-5 when he was out of the lineup.
Hopefully, some time off will get Matthews back to 100-percent and will galvanize the team as a whole to get them out of their current slump.
