After a down year, Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly's latest comments proves his determination to better himself ahead of a crucial campaign.

Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly will be the first to tell you that his performance in 2024-25 was uneven at best. However, despite his struggles, the veteran is raring to get back on the ice to prove he still has what it takes to lead the team's back-end.
It started at the end of last season, when Rielly had a sit-down conversation with GM Brad Treliving about where things stood between player and team, especially considering the path the Leafs were about to embark on.
Morgan and I had a real good chat at the end of the year and a real honest chat about where his year was at,  what I think he's capable of, what he's capable of.  I'll just say it's something he took to heart.
Upon his arrival to training camp, Rielly added that he did a lot of soul searching, where he had difficult conversations with important people, including himself.
I did a lot of reflecting over the course of the last year and during the off-season.  Had some healthy but challenging conversations with a number of people, and most importantly, myself.

With that in mind, the 31-year-old did everything he could this off-season to better prepare himself for the new campaign and to rectify past mistakes.
I believe that I did everything I could to be prepared for a great season.  I know everyone puts a lot of pressure on themselves, approaching a new season, and you try to do everything you can to be prepared.  So for me, I took steps, and my goal was to leave no stone unturned in trying to bounce back and have a great year. For me, it's about being in shape, skating, playing to your strengths, being dangerous, shooting the puck, and take it from there. But again, it's about what we're doing as a team, and that starts today, and on the ice (Thursday).

The Leafs will be entering the 2025-26 season looking a little different after undergoing a makeover this summer. However, the objective remains the same, as they look to end their long-standing Cup drought.
As for Rielly, his recent comments prove that he's determined to getting back to his game, one that involves a lot less mistakes, offensive wizardry, and most importantly, confidence.
