"Toronto Maple Leafs' superstar Auston Matthews has had a pretty tight relationship with defenseman Morgan Rielly over the last couple of years. That friendship extends off the ice as the two have been seen all over town hanging out at different events. However those hangouts have apparently come to a pretty abrupt halt. During his recent appearance on "Spittin Chicklets", Matthews revealed that he's been ditched by Rielly because of Rielly's new girlfriend. His girlfriend is kind of a big deal, not just to Rielly but to Canadian Olympic history, being that her name is none other than Tessa Virtue. «I was pretty upset with him for a while and I would chirp him and stuff like that because he kind of kept it quiet, he didn't come out and say it...," Matthews said on the podcast.
Matthews also revealed that the duo have had a tradition of sitting courtside everytime NBA superstar Russell Westbrook comes to town but it was broken this year because of Virtue. «I was really pissed because me and him would go to the Raps game every year when Russell Westbrook would come, so we'd always sit courtside... this year, he didn't go with me because his girlfriend was in town and that's where it really fell off for me,» Matthews explains.
«I actually spoke with her and was like, I can't believe you did this. This is tradition, you don't mess with tradition."
