Maple Leafs Reportedly Receive Clarity from Pending UFA Mitch Marner About His Future

The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly received the clarity they were seeking from pending free agent Mitch Marner about his plans and his future with the organization.
Since the Leafs' season ended with an embarassing 6-1 loss in Game 7 to the Florida Panthers, the future of Mitch Marner has been a hot topic in Toronto.
It has long been expected that the 28-year-old will test free agency on July 1st, but he had not provided any clarity about his ultimate decision to the Leafs at the time that GM Brad Treliving met with the media a couple of weeks ago.
During his availability, Treliving noted that Marner may not even receive an offer from the Leafs, but that the two sides would sit down at some point over the coming weeks.
Mitch Marner Has Let His Intentions Be Known to the Maple Leafs Ahead of Free Agency
While it's not exactly a definitive answer from Marner, TSN's Chris Johnston revealed on a new episode of 'The Chris Johnston Show' on Thursday that the door is not completely closed on a return to Toronto for the hometown forward.
"I still think Mitch Marner is going to hit free agency on July 1st. It's his position that the Leafs can be a team he'll consider on July 1st, but nobody should be expecting an announcement before that period.
Despite previous reports of Marner not willing to agree to a sign-and-trade, Johnston stated that if there was ultimately a team he wanted to go to, it may be something the Leafs explore as the draft approaches.
Regardless of Marner's ultimate decision, it may be time for the Leafs and GM Brad Treliving to put their foot down and look elsewhere for players to supplement his production, and spreading out the $13M+ that the Leafs may have been reserving for Marner.
