The Toronto Maple Leafs have reportedly lost a pair of prospects on the first day of free agency, further depleting an already shallow prospect pool.
As the opening day of NHL free agency unfolds, teams are quickly reshaping their rosters, and that includes both additions and losses.
But while their Maple Leafs roster gained a piecr, the organization lost two valuable depth pieces from the AHL's Toronto Marlies.
"Nick Abruzzese, a Group 6 UFA, will not be re-signing with the Maple Leafs, per his agent.
The 26-year-old was a fourth-round pick by the Maple Leafs in 2019 and only played 11 NHL games with the club."
As per Leafs Updates on X:
"Appears Alex Steeves is off to Boston."
Marlies Depleted After Two Key Players Move On From Organization
While neither player became a full-time NHL regular, Steeves and Abruzzese were key contributors for the Marlies.
Both Abruzzese and Steeves leave noticeable gaps in the Marlies' lineup, but the Maple Leafs still have time to address those losses. With free agency just getting started, replacements could come sooner rather than later. Stay tuned.
