Maple Leafs Pull Off Late Trade with Minnesota Wild for 26-Year-Old Forward
Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving had one more move in the chamber on Friday, swinging a late deal with the Minnesota Wild for 26-year-old forward Reese Johnson.
It's been a hectic day across the NHL with the Trade Deadline having come and gone, and the Toronto Maple Leafs were no exception.
Not only did they acquire Scott Laughton from the Philadelphia Flyers and Brandon Carlo from their divisional foe, the Boston Bruins, but they also traded Conor Timmins and Connor Dewar to the Pittsburgh Penguins, with former GM Kyle Dubas sending back a 5th round pick.
With those deals out of the way, many thought that the Leafs were done for the day, but just minutes ago, the news broke that a last-minute trade involving the Leafs and the Minnesota Wild was approved by the League office.
The trade sees the Maple Leafs pick up depth forward Reese Johnson from the Minnesota Wild in exchange for future considerations.
Via the official Maple Leafs website:
"Johnson, 26, has posted 13 points (fours goals, nine assists) in 49 games with the Iowa Wild (AHL) this season while also skating in three games with the Minnesota Wild.
The 6'1», 193-pound forward has recorded 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in 144 career regular season NHL games split between Minnesota and Chicago while also collecting 36 points (13 goals, 23 assists) in 132 career regular season AHL games split between Iowa and Rockford."

Johnson is likely headed to the American Hockey League and will serve as a warm body for the Marlies following the trades of forward prospects Fraser Minten (in the Brandon Carlo trade with the Bruins) and Nikita Grebenkin (in the Scott Laughton trade with the Flyers).
I'm sure that Leafs GM Brad Treliving will enjoy a good night's sleep tonight after doing everything he could to help give the Leafs everything they needed ahead of the deadline.
