With the free agent frenzy rolling along, the Toronto Maple Leafs will now be on the lookout for goaltending depth after the Seattle Kraken have officially signed Matt Murray.

Considering all of the extensions that took place over the last few days, including deals for Brad Marchand, Sam Bennett and Aaron Ekblad having already been announced, this year's free agent frenzy wasn't expected to hold as many fireworks.
The Toronto Maple Leafs had a relatively quiet start to the festivities with their lone signing being forward Michael Pezzetta. They did, however, make several additions yesterday in acquiring Matias Maccelli and Nicolas Roy, but nothing major in the first few hours of July's free agent craze.
As fae as who the Maple Leafs lost on Tuesday, we know that Alex Steeves and Nick Abruzzese are moving on, as well as Mitch Marner, who was shipped to Vegas. Now, goaltender Matt Murray has signed a deal elsewhere as well.
The two-time Stanley Cup champion had been with the Leafs since 2022-23, where he provided depth at a position of need. Although he was initially brought in to be their potential starter, his first season in Toronto was riddled with injuries.
Making his full return in 2024-25, Murray played in 21 games for the Toronto Marlies, where he posted a solid 10-5-4 record with a .934 SV% and a 1.72 GAA. He played well when called upon, but with Dennis Hildeby and Artur Akhtyamov vying for playing time as well, Murray wasn't a necessary name to keep around.
Murray's deal with the Kraken is for one year at a cap hit of just $1 million as he looks to resurrect his NHL career. After winning 2 Stanley Cups in his first 2 seasons, the now 30-year-old struggled to find consistency in his game that eventually forced his departure from both Pittsburgh and Ottawa.
