The Toronto Maple Leafs accomplished something truly impressive on Tuesday in Boston, achieving something they have not achieved in more than 60 years.
The Maple Leafs have gotten off to a strong start following the 4 Nations Face-Off, winning three games in a row coming out of the break. Their most recent victory against the Boston Bruins may be their best win of the season so far.
Marner has carried on his strong play from the 4 Nations Face-Off since re-joining the Maple Leafs. Not that he wasn't playing an amazing already, accumulating 73 points in 57 games so far, placing him 4th in the entire NHL.
However, the only downside to Marner's strong play is that it has significantly raised his value just before contract extension talks. As of now, it seems like Marner may test free agency, which is concerning for the Maple Leafs, as there are few players in the NHL better than he is at what he does.
While the Leafs put a stamp on their victory last night, overcoming a huge deficit in Boston to win in overtime, there's another longstanding drought they'll be looking to overcome in April, May and June -- their Stanley Cup drought.
