Toronto Maple Leafs forward Matt Martin hasn't played in a game since the Leafs loss on January 22nd against Colorado. Martin played for seven minutes and only five minutes in the game before against Ottawa, and it doesn't look like he'll be getting any minutes soon. The 28 year old still has two more years on his contract which was just signed during the summer of 2016. Martin was a topic of conversation this week by insiders Nick Kypreos and Elliotte Friedman.Friedman stated that the Leafs have checked with a couple of teams to gauge interest while Kypreos mentioned that Martin is a soldier and despite not playing won't be demanding a trade no matter how badly he might want out. It's a total 180 compared to last year when he played in all 82 games for the Leafs however with Kasperi Kapanen replacing him and already matching Martin's 2016-17 numbers in just 14 games, it's pretty hard to take Kapanen out of the lineup. «Marty is a real important guy and, obviously, a real good guy,» Babcock said this week. «You don't want him out of the lineup. In saying that, though, Kapanen is an elite penalty killer and has real good speed. We've got real good tempo. Those are hard decisions you make.
There's no easy solution for Martin right now as he's popular with fans and players in the dressing room just like his time in New York. Do you think the Leafs should keep Martin or move him?
