For the 1st time since 2004, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators are clashing in the famed
Battle of Ontario in the opening round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Game 1 of the series, their first in 21 years, began at Scotiabank Arena (formerly known as Air Canada Centre) in downtown Toronto on Sunday night.
But before the game began, there was a tense moment in the venue that required emergency services. Multiple reports indicated that there was a small fire on the 300 level of the arena, temporarily shutting the concourse down and making getting to their seats impossible for some fans for a short time.
The good news is that the fire was small and soon contained, and that there are no reports of injuries.
Per hockey analyst David Pagnotta on X:
There was a fire inside the 300 level of Scotiabank Arena, and part of the concourse is temporarily closed. Fire department is on scene and the fire's been contained. If you're in attendance and can't get to your 300 level seat, that's why - but you should soon.
This isn't the 1st time an incident like this has taken place at the venue. Scotiabank Arena, also home to the
NBA's Toronto Raptors, experienced a small electrical fire during a game between the Raptors and visiting Indiana Pacers broke out during the 2nd quarter of play.
The game was delayed by over 70 minutes while the venue was evacuated; thankfully, there were also no injuries reported.
