The majority of Toronto Maple Leafs' fans are hoping that the team can land a defenseman at the deadline so they can make a serious playoff push. Head coach Mike Babcock also has a defenseman listed on his trade deadline wish list. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Leafs have identified one of their top targets. On Saturday's edition of "Headlines" Friedman reported that the Leafs have inquired and are interested in acquiring Christopher Tanev of the Vancouver Canucks. The East York native has been linked to the Leafs before in trade rumours going back to this summer. However, multiple sources have mentioned the Canucks would prefer to move Erik Gudbranson and moving Tanev would probably require at minimum a first round pick. The 28 year old Tanev has two more years left on his contract with a $4.45million cap hit per season. He currently has 11 points in 38 games so far this season and 86 points in 386 career NHL games. Do you think Tanev would be a great addition for the Leafs blueline?
