"The Toronto Maple Leafs had a new look when they took to the practice ice today. The team decided to wear their all white gear that they will sport at the Stadium Series game against the Washington Capitals next month. The defensive pairings had a different look as well due to the absence of Jake Gardiner, who left Wednesday's game versus the Columbus Blue Jackets with a lower-body injury. Morgan Rielly and Ron Hainsey formed their usual top pairing with Travis Dermott skating with Roman Polak and Connor Carrick paired off with Nikita Zaitsev. Head coach Mike Babcock sounded very optimistic that Gardiner will play versus the Pittsburgh Penguins tomorrow night, even though he is considered to be a game time decision. «Plan on playing him tomorrow and then when I come in tomorrow they'll give me the news,» Babcock said, per Mark Masters of TSN.
