New Toronto Maple Leafs forward Dakota Joshua may be in line for a much larger role than anyone anticipated in his return to the team that drafted him.
The new NHL season is nearly upon us, and with it comes fresh opportunities for players to make their mark.
Joshua brings a dynamic skill set that allows him to play anywhere in the lineup, though many have him earmarked for a bottom-six role. With his blend of physicality, skill, and strong skating, he has the versatility to contribute in multiple roles, and could even prove to be a strong option in the Maple Leafs' top six.
Dakota Joshua: A Stronger Offensive Player Than Meets the Eye
While Joshua is often recognized for his grit and defensive play, he also has an underrated scoring touch. Just two seasons ago, he recorded 18 goals in 63 games with Vancouver -- a pace that projects to nearly 25 goals over a full 82-game season. That production shows he can find the back of the net when given the opportunity.
Although it may be tempting to pencil Joshua into a traditional bottom-six role, a new team often brings new responsibilities. For a Maple Leafs roster still searching for a reliable top-six winger, they may already have one, as Joshua might just be the perfect fit if he's given the chance.
