The Carolina Hurricanes pulled off perhaps the biggest trade of the trade deadline when they nabbed prized pending UFA Jake Guentzel from the Pittsburgh Penguins. However, Guentzel told the media on Tuesday that he never wanted to leave and while he's happy to be in Carolina to have a shot at another Stanley Cup, it appears that he's none too pleased with Pens President and GM Kyle Dubas.
Just a couple of short weeks after Sidney Crosby appeared to throw some shade Kyle Dubas' way for his handling of the Guentzel situation, Guentzel himself also had some choice words for the ex-Leafs GM.
Despite Guentzel's status as a pending UFA, he never wanted out in Pittsburgh, even amid a re-tooling by the Pens and even after the team had slipped out of the playoff picture. To know that he wanted to stay certainly got under the skin of Crosby, Guentzel's most consistent linemate during his 8 seasons in Pittsburgh, and now some are even wondering if Crosby himself will request a trade or simply walk away or retire when his current contract is up.
