Anthony Stolarz reveals how his relationship with Joseph Woll has started out
Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolars is more familiar with Joseph Woll than many thought and is looking forward to working with the young Leafs goalie.
After a year that saw the Leafs deal with major inconsistency between the pipes, GM Brad Treliving let Ilya Samsonov walk to Vegas in favour of Stanley Cup champion Anthony Stolarz. Stolarz inked a 2-year deal with the Leafs on July 1st and is expected to provide the Leafs with some stability alongside Joseph Woll.
Stolarz recent spoke with Nick Alberga and Jay Rosehill for their "Leafs Morning Take" podcast, with the interview officially airing today. Stolarz was asked about the opportunity to work with Woll and as it turns out, they actually have something in common; they share an agent.
Stolarz seems to know a lot about Woll even though they have yet to skate together, which isn't a bad thing. If anything, it should help the pair build a relationship fairly quickly when training camp opens and allow them to push each other without the fear of stepping on each other's toes, so to speak.
Neither of the two goaltenders have played more than 30 games in a season, so watching how new head coach Craig Berube splits up the starts between them will be something to keep an eye on. However, when healthy, Woll has been very consistent in goal, as has Stolarz throughout his career.
Now, for at least for the next two seasons, the Leafs appear to have some stability between the pipes.
