Alex Ovechkin Publicly Chirps one of the Greatest Leafs Goalies of All-Time

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin is now officially the is the greatest goal scorer in National Hockey League history.

He tied Wayne Gretzky's mark of 894 goals last Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks and then took sole possession of 1st overall with his 895th goal against the New York Islanders on Sunday.

To commemorate the occasion, Budweiser has sent special customized cans to 28 separate goaltenders that Ovechkin never managed to slip the puck by. One of them is Toronto Maple Leafs legend Curtis Joseph, who stopped both shots that Ovechkin had against him in 2009.

Joseph shared a photo with his can from Budweiser on «X», congratulating Ovechkin for his accomplishment:

Ovechkin fired back a few hours later, joking that he would score on him had he not retired:

Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin is the 183rd goalie that was victimized by Ovechkin's legendary shot.

As for Joseph, he had already been an established NHL goalie for years before he signed with the Maple Leafs in the summer of 1998; he played with the club through 2002, leading them to their most recent appearance in the Eastern Conference Final.

After stints with the Detroit Red Wings, Phoenix Coyotes and Calgary Flames, Joseph returned to Toronto to end his career with the Maple Leafs in 2008.
