Kyle Dubas has acknowledged the fact that he is on the hot seat this season. The Leafs GM is heading into his 5th season as general manager with the team without a playoff round win to show for it. There has been a ton of discourse over whether or not he deserves to keep his job, but little talk about the fallout for him and the team should they decide to bring in a new GM next season.

Last week, Chris Johnston, writing for North Star Bets released an article stating that even if the Leafs don't make the second round and beyond this season, Dubas should receive an extension. The article was well reasoned and centered around the fact that, even with all of the obstacles that have been placed in front of him, Dubas has kept the Leafs near the top of the standings. Bemoan the fact he used regular season stats all you want, teams that win in the regular season typically win in the playoffs too. The Leafs are a tragic and unique case.

More interesting than the article itself was his follow-up on SDPN's The CJ Show. Johnston revealed that after posting the article, he received texts from several members of front offices around the league, all of them saying their owners would hire Dubas tomorrow should he hit the open market. It seems that whether it's with the Leafs or not, Dubas will absolutely be working in the NHL next season should he want to.
