EBUG takes over for Jack Campbell with 2 minutes remaining in last night's game
Last night, the Oilers were up 7-3 on Chicago with just over 2 minutes to play and it prompted the Oilers to make a goalie change. Stuart Skinner was a last minute scratch due to an illness so the Oilers signed Matt Berlin. The Edmonton born goalie, who is currently in his third season with the University of Alberta Golden Bears, served as the Oilers' EBUG and was able to play the final 2 minutes of the game.
Berlin was given the opportunity to play in his first NHL game by Jay Woodcroft, who said after the game that it was a player-driven idea initiated by Connor McDavid. Berlin faced one shot in his 2 minutes of game action and was mobbed by the Oilers following the win. It was a wholesome moment and something Berlin will never forget.
In 5 games with the Golden Bears this season, Berlin is 4-0-1 with a 2.57 GAA and .892 save percentage.
